Mitch Hara, a multifaceted artist, was raised by speed-freak alcoholics, which had a profound impact on his unique voice and perspective on the world. His experiences with drugs, cookies, and chaos also contributed to his artistic flair.
At the tender age of 19, Hara escaped to New York City, where he was invited to join the esteemed Actors Studio. He went on to perform in numerous off-Broadway plays, comedy clubs, Studio 54, and even a few rehabilitation centers.
While pole dancing on 42nd Street, Hara received a call to Los Angeles to star in a pilot, Eddie Dodd, alongside Treat Williams. He has since made guest appearances on various TV shows, including a recurring role on ER as a suicidal mental patient, as well as film roles that showcase his versatility.
Hara's remarkable talent lies in his ability to infuse humor and humanity into his portrayal of complex characters. He has written, directed, and performed in five critically acclaimed plays, earning an "Outstanding Performance" award from Backstage for his portrayal of "Sister Coco Call-Me-Ishmael" in The Tragic and Horrible Life of the Singing Nun.
His extensive acting credits include a co-starring role in the pilot I RUN HOT for AMC/Peacock, directed by Ilana Glazer, as well as the pilot, "SUNNY'S CLOSET," where he played TayTay, a scheming executive assistant. His short-form series, SMOTHERED Season 1, co-written with and co-starring Jason Stuart, went viral on Amazon Prime and was voted "Top 10 to Binge." SMOTHERED Season 2 has recently been released on AMAZON, REVRY, YouTube, and internationally, with the premiere held at Sony Pictures in the John Singleton theatre.
Hara is currently on stage in Hollywood, performing his award-winning solo show MUTANT OLIVE 2.0, which has received rave reviews, and is gearing up to tour NYC, Chicago, London, and Edinburgh. Directed by the talented Carlyle King, who also directed SMOTHERED Season 2, Hara is working on several projects, including his screenplay, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?, a gay Aunty Mame meets Rain Man meets Kramer vs. Kramer, about his relationship with his 11-year-old nephew with Aspergers.
Other projects currently in development include the black comedy PARTY TIME, about destiny, annoying angels, and cancer, as well as the TV series version of MUTANT OLIVE, now titled SWEET DREAMS. Hara is also pitching SMOTHERED to studios as a full-fledged series.
Throughout his career, Hara has worked, directed, or had intimate moments with numerous notable figures, including John Travolta, Maura Tierney, Susan Lucci, Sally Kirkland, John Savage, Angela Lansbury, Doris Roberts, Joe Manganiello, Karen Black, Marlon Wayans, Eliot Glazer, Colton Haynes, and half of NYC.
Hara's philosophy is simple: "I never take 'no' for an answer. For me, everything is YES. So 'no' is just a slow yes." His inner child is alive and well, ready to play!
