Biography

Mike Sargent is a multifaceted creative professional with extensive experience in various aspects of the entertainment industry.

As a graduate of the High School of Art & Design and Parson's School of Design as an Illustrator, Mike began his career in Theatre and Film as a sound designer, earning numerous nominations for the prestigious Audelco Award for excellence in Sound Design.

From there, Mike transitioned to writing, producing, and directing radio drama and audio books, adapting the works of renowned science-fiction authors such as Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clark. He was the recipient of several grants to develop his feminist-science-fiction play Nemesis.

In 1997, his short film, The Lesson, premiered to critical acclaim at the Visions of New Black filmmaker's Festival. His debut feature film, Personals (aka Hook'd Up),which he wrote and directed, was the opening night film at the 1999 Los Angeles' Pan African Film Festival.

As the Producer/Host of WBAI-FM's popular late-night magazine/talk show Niteshift, Mike also serves as chief film critic for WBAI, hosting the all-film-related weekly program Reelworld. He regularly appears on numerous television shows, radio programs, and podcasts as a nationally quoted film and entertainment critic, and is a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association [BFCA].

Furthermore, Mike is a co-founder and co-president of the Black Film Critics Circle [BFCC]. Currently, he is completing Bad Boys: A Documentary (2018),an in-depth, investigative film that explores the phenomenon of why women and society have been in love with 'bad boys' throughout history.
