Mick Pointer, a renowned drummer and founding member of the esteemed Aylesbury-based progressive rock band Marillion, was born on the twenty-second day of July, nineteen hundred and fifty-six, in the picturesque county of Buckinghamshire, England.
As the brainchild behind the band's name, Pointer played a pivotal role in shaping the identity of Marillion, and his drumming skills were instrumental in the creation of the band's platinum-certified debut album, "Script for a Jester's Tear". However, his tenure with the band came to an abrupt end in April 1983, due to creative differences with lead vocalist Fish, who was dissatisfied with Pointer's timing and musical development.
Fish's insistence on Pointer's departure led to his replacement by Ian Mosley, and Pointer took a prolonged hiatus from the music industry, opting instead to pursue a career in kitchen design. Nevertheless, Pointer's passion for music remained unabated, and he eventually returned to the scene, co-founding the progressive rock band Arena in the mid-1990s.
Arena's debut album, "Songs from the Lion's Cage", was released in 1995, and since then, the band has gone on to release seven further studio albums, five live albums, and three EPs, solidifying their reputation as a prominent force in the prog-rock genre.
