Michala's early life was marked by a profound enthusiasm for performing, a passion that emerged at the tender age of ten. Growing up in a small town in Saskatchewan, Canada, she began training professionally in ballet under the guidance of the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance. This foundational training served as a springboard for her exploration of various dance styles, including tap, jazz, contemporary, ballroom, and musical theatre. However, her professional dancing career was brought to a sudden halt due to an injury, forcing her to re-evaluate her path.
Undeterred, Michala pivoted towards modeling, with a local agency in Regina, Saskatchewan, recommending her for representation. Not long after commencing her modeling career, she transitioned into acting for film and television. Her trajectory took a dramatic turn when she filmed an independent feature in Saskatchewan, prompting her relocation to Toronto. In this new city, she pursued her MFA in theatre and continued her on-camera training under the tutelage of renowned instructors and at esteemed facilities.
Michala's acting career gained momentum with her landing of a professional role on the critically acclaimed Hulu television series, The Handmaid's Tale, opposite the talented Samira Wiley, who is known for her work on Orange is the New Black. Her impressive resume continues to grow, featuring a lead role in the feature film Survival Box and a notable performance in Boys vs. Girls, where she shared the screen with Canadian stars and improv masters Colin Mochrie, of Whose Line is it Anyway? fame, and Kevin McDonald, a member of the legendary comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall.
