Michael Williams is a multifaceted creative force, with a passion for cats, gardening, and an endearing aspiration to become a hobbit. As a writer, director, cinematographer, and producer, he has made a name for himself in the film industry through his work on projects such as "OzLand" (2015) and "The Atoning" (2017).
Williams' journey in filmmaking began in 2004, when he started creating short films during his high school years. He later attended The University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Film and was awarded the Top Film Student of 2009 Award.
After graduating, Williams landed his first job in the industry in 2007, which initially started as a production assistant role. However, he was soon tasked with the responsibilities of a 1st Assistant Camera, a position he held for nine years. This experience eventually led to a career transition into cinematography, starting in 2010.
Throughout his career, Williams has written, directed, and produced over 20 short films, waiting for the perfect idea to tackle his first feature film. That film became "OzLand", an award-winning feature that premiered in Hollywood, California, and received distribution in the U.S. and U.K.
His second feature film, "The Atoning", was released in 2017 and premiered in various international markets, including Brazil, Germany, South East Asia, Mexico, Russia, Vietnam, and South Korea.
As a visual storyteller, Williams' passion for unique and meaningful storytelling drives his career. He writes, directs, and works as a cinematographer to bring his vision to life, giving each production a distinct voice. Since coming out as gay in 2016, Williams' voice as a storyteller has evolved, and he continues to grow and develop with each new project.
His latest scripts, "Rosemary" and "Out in the Open", reflect the personal and creative growth Williams has experienced since coming out, and these in-development projects mark the beginning of a new era of cinematic expression for Williams' passion to share stories with the world.
