Biography

Sir Michael Redgrave was a prominent figure among the esteemed generation of English actors that had the distinction of producing legendary thespians such as John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, and Laurence Olivier, who were affectionately referred to as Britain's "Theatrical Knights" during an era when the honor of knighthood was significantly less common for actors than it is in contemporary times. A masterful performer in his own right, Redgrave was a founding member of the post-World War I English acting elite and was also the patriarch of a renowned acting dynasty. He shared his life with his wife, Rachel Kempson, and together they had three accomplished children: Vanessa Redgrave, Corin Redgrave, and Lynn Redgrave. Moreover, Redgrave's children went on to have children of their own, making him a proud grandfather to the talented Natasha Richardson, Joely Richardson, and Jemma Redgrave.
