Michael Galinsky, a multifaceted creative force, was born in 1969 in the vibrant college town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he would later return with his wife, Suki Hawley, a fellow co-filmmaker.
As a teenager in high school, Galinsky's passion for photography was already evident, as he captured striking images of a Ku Klux Klan march down the main street of this liberal community in 1987.
Following his high school days, Galinsky pursued his academic interests in religious studies at New York University, while simultaneously minoring in photography, a decision that would ultimately shape his career in various aspects of film production.
As a still cameraman, Galinsky has amassed several published collections of photographs showcasing shopping malls across the United States during the 1980s.
In his work as a filmmaker, Galinsky has demonstrated a particular fascination with indie rock and political documentary, collaborating with Hawley on a compilation of protest demonstrations spanning the years, as well as documenting the controversial Silent Sam sculpture on the University of North Carolina campus.
