Michael Findlay, a renowned filmmaker, met a tragic demise in a helicopter accident that occurred on the rooftop of the then Pan Am Building in New York City. The fateful event unfolded as Findlay was en route to John F. Kennedy Airport to connect with a Paris-bound flight, with the intention of showcasing his innovative 3-D camera to potential investors in France. As he and three other passengers were about to board the helicopter, its landing support catastrophically collapsed, causing the aircraft to tilt precariously onto one side. The spinning rotor blades of the helicopter then inflicted a devastating blow, decapitating Findlay and killing the three other passengers on board. In a heartbreaking twist, a woman on the street below was also struck and killed by a detached rotor blade that had been torn loose from the helicopter, adding to the senseless loss of life and destruction caused by this unfortunate incident.
