Biography

Merrie Spaeth, a multifaceted individual with a background that spans media, government, politics, and business, founded Spaeth Communications, Inc. in 1987. Based in Dallas, the firm provides communication training and consulting services to a wide range of companies and institutions.

As a specialist in teaching executives how to leverage communication as a strategic business tool, Ms. Spaeth frequently writes and lectures to business groups on the subject. Her government experience began as a White House Fellow, serving as Special Assistant to William Webster, Director of the F.B.I., and later as Special Assistant to President Ronald Reagan and Director of Media Relations at the White House.

During her tenure, she pioneered the use of satellite communications and established the electronic White House News Service. Ms. Spaeth has worked extensively in the media, serving as a commentator on business communication for "Marketplace" on public radio stations across the country. She has also written a weekly column on personal finance and investing for USA Today Sunday Magazine.

Throughout her career, Ms. Spaeth has worked for various prominent publications, including the Philadelphia Inquirer, the New York Daily News, Family Weekly, and many others. She is the author of "Marketplace Communication" and has written opinion articles and speeches for numerous business leaders, including the late William S. Paley, founder and chairman of CBS, Inc.

A graduate of Smith College, Ms. Spaeth holds a master's degree from Columbia Business School, where she received the Overall Achievement Award. She is an instructor at the Business Leadership Center in the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University and has received several honors, including Glamour Magazine's 10 Outstanding Working Women of America and the National Council of Women's Citation of Accomplishment.

In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Spaeth has also pursued a career in acting, beginning with her role in the 1964 film "The World of Henry Orient" alongside Peter Sellers and Angela Lansbury. She is the founder and president of the Institute for Strategic Communications, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to studying and reporting on business communication issues.
