Biography

Matias Ponce is a multifaceted Mexican American actor with an extensive background in television, film, and stage productions. His recent appearances include starring roles in the Amazon Prime series "On Call" and the Netflix series "The Lincoln Lawyer" Season 3, both of which are currently streaming on their respective platforms.

Ponce has had the privilege of portraying significant characters in notable productions. In 2017, he had the honor of playing Henry Reyna in Luis Valdez's "Zoot Suit" alongside Oscar-nominated actor Demián Bichir. This revival was held at The Mark Taper Forum in Downtown Los Angeles, with Luis Valdez directing. In 2011, he made his debut on the Los Angeles stage in "Short Eyes" by Miguel Piñero at The Los Angeles Theatre Center.

Born and raised in the Old South End of Toledo, Ohio, Ponce is an only child to his father, Domingo G. Ponce, who hails from Querétaro, México, and his mother, Anna Maria Ponce, a first-generation born Mexican American from Toledo, Ohio. He credits his mother for introducing him to the world of acting. Ponce began his acting journey by appearing in local commercials for Buckeye CableSystem, where his mother worked. He also performed at the Toledo Repertoire Theatre and worked as a model and actor with Starbound Models and Talent Agency.

Ponce graduated from Libbey High School in 2007 and relocated to Los Angeles, California in September 2009. He is a teaching artist and has collaborated with various non-profit theater organizations, providing theater education within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Additionally, he teaches creative writing to incarcerated adults within the California state prison system through the organization InsideOUT Writers.

Ponce continues to work closely with theatre director José Luis Valenzuela and the members of the Latino Theater Company. He is also part of the succession group, being the next generation of The Latino Theater Company at the LATC in Downtown Los Angeles.
