Marwan Hamed is an Egyptian filmmaker of great prominence, boasting a rich and extensive repertoire that spans over two decades of experience in the production and direction of films, as well as the direction of more than 300 commercials, TV drama series, and music videos.
His debut feature film, The Yacoubian Building, released in 2006, was the most expensive film ever made in the history of Egyptian cinema at the time, and it premiered at some of the world's most prestigious film festivals, garnering numerous awards in the process.
Fast forward to 2014, Marwan directed The Blue Elephant, a film that went on to win several awards at various film festivals, and in 2019, he directed the sequel, Blue Elephant: Dark Whispers. The film was a massive commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing film in Egyptian history at the time.
Marwan's latest film, Kira & El Gen, is a historical drama set in the 1920s, written by Ahmed Mourad. The film is based on Mourad's best-selling novel, 1919, and has officially become the highest-grossing film in the history of Egyptian cinema, with revenues exceeding EGP 110 million.
