Next person biography:
Marvin Bell was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1952. At the age of 14, he reluctantly accepted the fact that he would never become a professional singer. After working various jobs in different settings, Bell discovered his natural ability to make people laugh while working as a postal clerk. This newfound talent led him to pursue a career in stand-up comedy, making his stage debut in 1982.
That same year, Bell tested his comedic skills at Catch A Rising Star in New York City. In 1983, he was recognized by the Showtime Network as one of the 50 funniest people in America, representing his home state of Missouri. Bell also made his acting debut in Charles Fuller's "Brownsville Raid" and went on to appear in several more theater productions over the next two years.
In 1984, Bell took a vacation and visited five different cities, establishing himself as a reputable comedian. By the time his vacation ended, he had bookings covering most of the first six weeks of 1985. Bell left the postal service in July 1985 and embarked on a full-time career as a professional comedian, with the help of his comedy mentors, Zack and Mack.
Bell relocated to Los Angeles in 1987, where he consistently worked local and out-of-town clubs. He then moved to Cleveland in 1993 and later to New York in 1994, adding the Catskills, Pocono's, and retirement villages in southern Florida to his list of comedy credits.
In 2010, Bell made the decision to focus on acting once again, a challenging task that has seen him appear in numerous stage productions, films, music videos, and network television programs. With his extensive experience and confidence, Bell plans to continue his acting and comedy pursuits for as long as life allows.
