Martin Spellman was born in 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa, a city known for its vibrant cultural scene and rich history. As a young boy, his family made the bold decision to relocate to California, a move that would have a profound impact on his future. At the tender age of nine, Martin's curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit led him to venture into the MGM Studios, where he began working as a newsboy. His determination and hard work soon made him a familiar face at the Studios, earning him the respect and admiration of the staff.
In 1937, Martin's luck took a remarkable turn when he was invited by the legendary actress Carole Lombard and the iconic actor Clark Gable to work as an extra on the film Test Pilot. This opportunity not only allowed him to gain valuable experience in the film industry but also provided him with an unforgettable experience working alongside two Hollywood legends. His uncredited role in the film marked the beginning of his journey as a young actor, and he went on to play Skinny in the 1938 film Boys Town, starring the renowned actors Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney.
Martin's early success in the film industry continued with his co-starring role in Streets of New York alongside the talented Jackie Cooper in 1939. The following year, he took on another leading role in Son of the Navy, starring alongside the beautiful Jean Parker and the charismatic James Dunn. His impressive filmography also includes notable titles such as Sharpshooters, Santa Fe Stampede, and I Am a Criminal, among others.
However, Martin's film career came to an end in 1941, and he subsequently enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. After serving his country, he returned to civilian life and embarked on a new career in the finance business, working for an impressive 27 years. Martin then transitioned to the automobile finance and insurance industry, where he continued to work until his golden years.
Throughout his life, Martin was blessed with six children from two marriages, and he spent his later years in Washington state, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the love of his family.
