Prior to his legal pursuits, he hails from Ellensburg, Washington, his birthplace. He also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Planning and Resource Management, obtained from Brigham Young University in the year 2000.
Interestingly, he spent two formative years, from 1995 to 1997, serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Little Rock, Arkansas.
