Mark Amin is the founder and CEO of Sobini Films, a production company he established to bring innovative and engaging stories to the big screen. In August 2020, he made his feature-length debut as a writer and director with Emperor, a film released by Briarcliff Entertainment and Universal Pictures. This marked a significant milestone in Amin's career, showcasing his versatility and range as a filmmaker.
As a producer, Amin has worked on a diverse range of projects, including Universal's JT Leroy, which starred Kristen Stewart and Laura Dern, Sony Pictures Classics' Miles Ahead, featuring Don Cheadle and Ewan McGregor, and IFC Films' Good Kill, starring Ethan Hawke and Nellie Bly. He has also collaborated with Darren Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures on this project.
Currently, Amin is overseeing a slate of pictures in development, including Z, a theatrical reboot of the popular Zorro franchise. This is just one of the many exciting projects he has in the works at Sobini.
In addition to his work at Sobini, Amin has a rich history in the film industry, having served as Vice Chairman of Lionsgate Entertainment for nine years. During his tenure, Lionsgate produced and distributed several critically acclaimed films, including Monster's Ball, which earned Halle Barry an Academy Award for Best Actress, and Crash, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Prior to his work with Lionsgate and Sobini, Amin founded Trimark Holdings, Inc. and served as the company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer until it merged with Lionsgate. During his time at Trimark, Amin was responsible for producing a number of critically acclaimed films, including Eve's Bayou, starring Samuel Jackson, The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn, which won an Emmy Award and starred Sidney Poitier, and Frida, distributed by Miramax Films, which received six Academy Award nominations.
