Marie Aumüller, following the birth of her two offspring, entered into a marital union with Rudolf Koch, a union that resulted in her children adopting the surname of their stepfather. Although the marriage of Rudolf and Marie Koch was of relatively short duration, their offspring remained unaware of the true paternity of their biological father, Rudolf Schindler, a renowned gastroenterologist, until a significant period of time had elapsed. Notably, Schindler was a Jew, and this fact may provide a plausible explanation for the extraordinary circumstance that allowed his children, who were also the children of Marie Koch, to survive the Shoah, a period of unprecedented tragedy and devastation.
In the year 1934, Schindler was compelled to emigrate from Germany, accompanied by his wife, Gabriele Winkler, and their two offspring, Richard and Ursula. Following the demise of Gabriele Winkler, Rudolf Schindler entered into a second marital union with Marie Koch.
