Margarita Zhitnikova, a multi-talented individual who prefers to be referred to as they/them, is a renowned Russian/Jewish actor and filmmaker. Their remarkable journey began when they, along with their family, relocated to Brooklyn, New York, as Jewish refugees fleeing Russia.
In 2017, Margarita co-founded their independent production company, Besties Make Movies, which has since been the driving force behind their creative endeavors. As a writer, producer, and actor, Margarita has been involved in the development of several short films, including JONES and 2 WEEKS.
JONES, an award-winning film, has garnered numerous nominations at various film festivals across the country, solidifying its reputation as a standout production. 2 WEEKS, another short film, was selected as an Official Screenplay Selection at the prestigious HollyShorts Film Festival and is set to premiere at the Oxford Film Festival.
As an actor, Margarita has received nominations for Best Actress at several notable film festivals, including Twister Alley International Film, Gig Harbor Film Festival, FirstGlance Film Festival, and Simply Indie Film Festival, for their captivating performance in JONES. Most recently, they wrapped up filming the leading roles in the feature film TRIPLE THREAT and the short film APPETITE.
