Marcelo Alejandro Alonso Claro, a renowned Chilean actor, was born in Santiago de Chile. He earned a degree in Acting from the Departamento de Teatro de la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de Chile. As a sibling, he has two half-brothers.
Alonso made his television debut in 1994 with a role in Champaña, followed by recurring roles. In 2004, he appeared in several TV shows, including Los Pincheira, Los Capo, Complices, Corazon de Maria, Viuda Alegre, and Los Exitosos Pells.
In 2009, he played the character of General Juan de Dios Vergudo in Conde Vrolok, and in 2011, he portrayed the villain Esteban Donoso in El Laberinto de Alicia. The following year, he joined Reserva de Familia, playing Pedro Serrano, the adopted son of Fernando Ruiz-Tagle (Nelson Villagra),the owner of a vineyard.
In 2012, Alonso acted in Socias, playing Federico Ibañez, a married man who cheats on his wife, Monserrat Silva (Paola Volpato). The next year, he joined the TV series Vuelve Temprano, playing Francisco Valenzuela.
In 2015, he played Father Raimundo Zisternas in La Poseida, a biographical drama about Carmen Marin "La Endemoniada de Santiago", set in 19th-century Santiago de Chile. Alonso has also appeared in several films, including Post Mortem (2010),directed by Pablo Larrain; La Mujer de Ivan (2011),by Franco Silva; El Club (2015),and Neruda (2016),starring Gael Garcia Bernal.
In addition to his screen work, Alonso has performed in numerous stage plays, such as Casa de Muñecas by Ibsen; Boca arriba by Rodrigo Bazaes; Un Roble by Tim Crouch, among others. He has also directed several theatre plays, including Las Brutas by Juan Radrigan, and Madame de Sade by Yukio Mishima.
As an educator, Alonso is a professor at various local universities. In his personal life, he has been in a relationship with Italian actress Alessandra Guerzoni from 2000 to 2004 and is currently in a relationship with Chilean actress Amparo Noguera.
