Marcel Romeijn was born on September 12, 1979, in Leidschendam, The Netherlands, and grew up in the small village of Niftrik, near Nijmegen. As a young boy, he developed a passion for acting and began producing his own theatre plays, involving his siblings as actors. After completing high school, he moved to Utrecht to study Desktop publishing.
In his first year of study, Marcel discovered a pamphlet at his school advertising an opportunity for young actors to join the Paardenkathedraal theatre company in Utrecht. He auditioned and was selected along with 12 other youngsters, marking the beginning of his career in the theatre.
After several years of performing in theatre productions, Marcel landed his first film role as a body double for Luke Perry on the set of Fogbound. This experience had a profound impact on him.
Around the age of 25, Marcel became involved with The 48 Hour Film Project Amsterdam, where he began writing, producing, and acting in short films. His first film, Cure, was a spy movie that he co-wrote, produced, and acted in. This marked the beginning of his transition from theatre to film acting.
At 27, Marcel directed his first theatre play, "Didolaxeos," in Utrecht. Three years later, he collaborated with friends to produce a short film based on this play, titled "Heb het Lief," which was directed by Jon Karthaus and filmed on the island of Aruba.
Marcel then took a sabbatical from acting, writing, and producing, focusing on a few small film projects with friends. In 2013, he was invited to participate in KinoBerlino, a worldwide KinoKabaret movement, in Berlin. He went on to perform in around 35 KinoKabarets throughout Europe.
At one of these KinoKabarets, Marcel met his future wife, Nataliya Trusova, at KinoM in Munich. In 2017, they returned to the Netherlands, where Marcel refocused on his acting and writing career. The couple got married in 2019 and currently reside in Rotterdam, where they produce Kinoonik Holland.
Throughout his career, Marcel has been active in (short) films, commercials, and television shows across Europe.
