Biography

Marc Forby, a visionary filmmaker, was born in England and developed a passion for cinema at the tender age of sixteen, after being mesmerized by Jean-Jacques Beineix's "Betty Blue" at a local art house theater in Bristol. This cinematic epiphany sparked a desire to direct, prompting him to purchase his first 16mm camera and begin creating documentary films during his boarding school days.

As he honed his craft, Marc also delved into acting, earning a prestigious Gold Medal at the renowned London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. He then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Studies at Queen's University, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors.

Marc's professional journey took him to Los Angeles, where he joined Alliance Atlantis Communications, a prominent production company responsible for notable films such as "Naked Lunch", "Crash", "Exotica", and "The Sweet Hereafter". Within the company, Marc was tasked with producing and selling feature films for television, including "Devil In The Flesh" starring Rose McGowan and "Joan of Arc" starring LeeLee Sobieski, which he successfully sold to Artisan Entertainment.

In 2002, Marc left Alliance to pursue his own projects, financing his first independent film, "Prom Night", starring Idris Elba, Brittany Snow, and Kellan Lutz, through Screen Gems. This experience allowed him to refine his skills as a producer and director.

Marc's big break came in 2005 when his long-time collaborator, Matador Pictures, agreed to produce his directorial debut, "Princess Kaiulani", a biographical drama about Hawaii's last princess. The film premiered at the Honolulu International Film Festival under the title "Barbarian Princess" and won the audience award, tied with "Precious". After a successful festival run, "Princess Kaiulani" was released theatrically in May 2010 by Roadside Attractions, enjoying an impressive twenty-week run.

Marc's sophomore feature as a director, "Highly Functional", starred an impressive ensemble cast, including Bruce Campbell, James Frecheville, Missi Pyle, Annabeth Gish, and Judge Reinhold. As of summer 2023, Marc is busy developing his screenplay, "Suds and Secrets", an offbeat crime thriller that follows an aging Los Angeles croupier and his teenage granddaughter as they navigate an unexpected death in the family.

Additionally, Marc is working on his neurotic thriller, "Lost In Beverly Hills", a project that showcases his versatility as a filmmaker. With a plethora of projects in various stages of development, Marc Forby continues to establish himself as a talented and innovative force in the world of cinema.
