Person Biography:
Manisha Koirala was born on August 16, 1970, in a prominent Nepali family, where several family members went on to rule the nation. However, she did not pursue a career in politics, instead, she began her career in modeling and eventually made her Bollywood debut with the top-grossing production Saudagar in 1991.
Manisha established herself as one of the leading actresses in the 1990s with films like 1942: A Love Story, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Agni Sakshi, and Gupt. She gained recognition for her willingness to experiment with strong, dramatic roles and delivered several acclaimed performances in films like Bombay, Khamoshi: The Musical, Dil Se.., Mann, Lajja, Company, and Escape from Taliban.
She received several awards and nominations, including three Filmfare Critics Awards for Best Actress, a South Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and a Star Screen Award Best Actress. However, her career experienced a decline in the following years, with most of her films failing to do well.
Manisha made a comeback with the Malyalam drama Elektra, the anthology film I Am, and the romantic comedy Mappillai. She took a break from acting in 2012 and returned three years later with the psychological thriller Chehere: A Modern Day Classic.
She has been involved in various philanthropic activities, including being appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund in 1999 and 2015.
