Luke Snellin was born in Romford, Essex, a borough located in the eastern part of London, England. He is a renowned film and television director, known for his exceptional work in the industry.
In 2010, Snellin was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award for his short film Mixtape, which he directed in 2009. His talent did not go unnoticed, as he was named one of Screen International's "Stars of Tomorrow" and one of Broadcast Magazine's "Hot Shots" that same year.
Snellin's experience in television directing began with shows such as My Mad Fat Diary in 2013, Banana in 2015, and The A Word in 2016. He then became the lead director on Wanderlust, a series written by Nick Payne and starring Toni Collette and Temple, written by Mark O'Rowe and starring Mark Strong.
In 2019, Snellin directed his debut feature film, Let It Snow, an adaptation of John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle's young adult novel. The film, which starred Isabela Merced, Shameik Moore, Odeya Rush, Kiernan Shipka, and Joan Cusack, was released by Netflix and received a GLAAD award nomination in 2020.
Snellin's work on Feel Good, a show created by Mae Martin and Joe Hampson and starring Mae Martin, Charlotte Ritchie, and Lisa Kudrow, earned him a RTS award in 2021. The show also won the NME Award for Best TV Series and was ranked at number 6 on The Guardian's 50 best TV shows of 2021.
In 2024, Snellin directed four episodes of One Day, a Netflix series based on David Nicholls' book of the same name. The show received critical and audience acclaim, and was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award in the Limited Drama category in March 2025.
Snellin also directed and executive produced the mini-series Reunion, which premiered on BBC One in April 2025. The show, written by deaf writer William Mager, features both spoken English and British Sign Language and has been praised as "groundbreaking" by The Standard and an "absolute revelation" by The Guardian.
In his personal life, Snellin lives in South East London with his wife and two children.
