Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos, a man with a lifelong passion for the circus, has led a multifaceted career spanning various artistic disciplines. During his early twenties, he donned the guise of a clown, adopting the persona of Xuxu. This early fascination with the art of clowning ultimately led to his organization of a clown festival in Paraiba in 1983.
A decade and a half later, in 2001, Vasconcelos orchestrated another remarkable event, a meeting that together brought clowns from around the world. This gathering was a testament to his enduring commitment to the world of clowning.
In the late 1970s, Vasconcelos co-founded Escola Piollin, a school dedicated to teaching the arts to children and adolescents. Named after a renowned clown, this institution has played a vital role in nurturing the creative potential of young minds.
In addition to his work in the circus and education, Vasconcelos has also made significant contributions to the world of theatre and literature. He has adapted a novel by Guimarães Rosa into a successful play, titled "O Vau da Sarapalha". Furthermore, he has studied theatre in Denmark and holds a degree in Literature from UFPB, a prestigious university in João Pessoa, Paraiba, Brazil.
Vasconcelos' foray into cinema began in 1997 with the film "O Baile Perfumado". He has since directed several notable films, including "Eu, Tu, Eles" (2000),"Abril Despedaçado" (2001),and "Carandiru" (2003),which have solidified his reputation as a talented and innovative filmmaker.
