Lucille Carra, a highly accomplished individual, was born in Manhattan and later attended New York University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film Production and a Master of Arts degree in Cinema Studies.
During her time at NYU, Carra received the prestigious NYU Alumni Association Award as Outstanding Woman Student at the Tisch School of the Arts, a testament to her exceptional academic achievements.
Following her academic pursuits, Carra embarked on a colorful career in Japanese international film distribution and licensing foreign rights for Broadway productions. Her extensive experience in this field laid the foundation for her later work.
Carra went on to develop Travelfilm Company, a renowned production company recognized for its deeply researched historical documentaries. Her films focus on the works of major artists, such as Antonin Dvorak and Frank Lloyd Wright, and are characterized by their conversational, informal storytelling style.
To bring these stories to life, Carra employs a unique blend of diverse landscapes, sound, and music, all carefully crafted to support narratives based on in-depth analysis and oral history. Her films have received support from various esteemed organizations, including the National Endowment For the Arts, the National Endowment For the Humanities, The Japan Foundation, The Hoso Bunka Foundation, New York Council on the Arts, and many others.
In addition to securing support from these organizations, Carra has also collaborated with notable co-production and distribution partners, such as PBS, PBS Video, Czech Television, AVRO (Netherlands),RM Associates, Janus Films, The Criterion Collection, Voyager Laserdisc, and Alexander Street Press.
The film collection, which includes titles such as The Inland Sea, Dvorak and America, and The Last Wright, is represented in Australia and New Zealand by Ronin Films.
