Ljubisa Samardzic was born into a family of miners, and his acting talent was discovered at a very young age. He was awarded a prestigious scholarship by the respected director Bojan Stupica, which paved the way for his future in the entertainment industry.
After graduating from the renowned Belgrade Drama Arts Academy, Samardzic began his acting career on stage, taking on various roles in the theater world. However, his breakthrough came when he was cast in the 1961 film "Igre na skelama". This experience marked a turning point in his career, as he decided to leave the world of theater behind and focus on his passion for film.
Over the years, Samardzic secured leading roles in some of the most iconic and influential movies ever made in former Yugoslavia. He soon became a household name in the country, alongside other legendary actors such as Velimir 'Bata' Zivojinovic, Milena Dravic, and Boris Dvornik.
However, as the 1980s approached and the Yugoslav Wars broke out, Samardzic's acting star began to fade. In response, he made the bold decision to switch careers and co-found a movie production company with his son, Dragan Samardzic.
Despite the challenging times brought on by UN sanctions against rump Yugoslavia, the company not only survived but also produced several successful films that gained popularity across many of the former Yugoslav republics.
Today, Ljubisa Samardzic resides in Belgrade, where he continues to work in the film industry. He is married and has two children and two grandchildren, proudly carrying on his legacy as one of Yugoslavia's most beloved actors.
