I'm a Canadian-American producer and director of documentary films, with a career spanning over two and a half decades. My professional journey began with a humble start, running errands for the renowned documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles in New York City.
For the next decade, I had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented directors in the industry, including Michael Apted, Jonathan Demme, and Lisa F. Jackson. Despite my initial struggles with navigation, they forgave my mistakes and taught me the ropes.
In 2004, I co-directed the documentary feature "Women on the Frontlines," which premiered at the United Nations and aired on PBS. This project marked my first foray into directing and took me to Afghanistan, Burundi, Bosnia, Argentina, and the United States.
Following the success of "Women on the Frontlines," my husband and director of photography, Guy Mossman, and I founded Vox Pop Films, a production company based in Tribeca, New York. In 2009, we relocated to Los Angeles, where we focused on creating branded content and commercials, while also developing ideas for feature-length documentaries.
Our passion project, "The Human Trial," was released in 2022. For nearly a decade, we followed a groundbreaking clinical trial that aimed to cure type 1 diabetes by programming stem cells. The film was nominated for a Humanitas Prize and won several awards at film festivals around the world. "The Human Trial" has been screened by over 300 organizations, including the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Parliament Hill, and a brownie troop in Santee, California. The film is now available on Prime Video, Apple TV, Documentary+, and the Documentary Channel.
As a member of the Producers Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, New York Women in Film & Television, FWD-Doc, and Roco Voices, a speakers' platform for documentary filmmakers, I'm committed to supporting and promoting the documentary industry. I'm also an adjunct professor at USC's School of Cinematic Arts, where I teach documentary production courses.
