Leonard Robinson is a multifaceted individual, effortlessly transitioning between his roles as an actor, comedian, and writer. His impressive improv skills, showcased on stage, have garnered attention alongside his portrayal of a stern lawyer on-screen.
Currently, Leonard is shining as Taurean Jackson in the fifth and final season of HBO's award-winning comedy series "Insecure", created by and starring Issa Rae. This critically acclaimed show follows two modern-day Black women, Issa and Molly, as they navigate the challenges of adulthood. Leonard's introduction in the third season quickly made him a fan favorite, playing Molly's coworker, Taurean.
"Insecure" has received numerous award nominations since its debut in 2016, including a Peabody Award, TCA Award nomination, multiple Primetime Emmy Award nominations, and an NAACP Image Award.
Leonard's on-screen credits also include "Life of Crime" alongside Jennifer Aniston, CBS's long-running procedural dramas "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles", truTV's "Adam Ruins Everything", and CBS's "Young Sheldon". Additionally, he was an original cast member on MTV's sketch and improv series "Wild 'N Out" alongside Randall Park and Katt Williams.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Danbury, Connecticut, with a three-year stint in Tokyo, Leonard first discovered his passion for acting while watching John John on "Sesame Street". Although a career in the arts seemed out of reach, he went on to train in wrestling and Judo throughout high school.
It wasn't until he attended Howard University for his BBA that he took his first acting class. As a wrestling state champion and black belt in Judo, Leonard eventually transferred his skills and discipline in sports to his successful acting career.
Upon graduating with a degree in Management Information Systems, Leonard appeared in theaters nationwide, including "The Exonerated" at The Culture Project (Off-Broadway),Williamstown Theatre Festival, New York Fringe Festival, and Studio Theatre in Washington, DC.
He later studied improv at the world-famous Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre and IO West and was a participant in the NBC Stand-Up for Diversity.
As a writer, Leonard developed the treatment for Lil Jon and LMFAO's "Drink" music video, which has over 7 million views on YouTube alone. In 2019, Leonard was selected to participate in the prestigious CBS Diversity Sketch Comedy Showcase as part of their first writer's room.
Today, Leonard is a main company member at The Groundlings, where he writes, directs, and performs. He is also a regular at The World Famous Comedy Store and has performed his stand-up abroad throughout the U.K.
Leonard currently resides in the Los Angeles area.
