Lee Goldberg grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, surrounded by the vibrant culture and diverse landscape that would later influence his work as a writer and producer. His parents, both accomplished journalists, played a significant role in shaping his early life and career aspirations. His father, an on-air reporter for KPIX-TV, brought home stories of the latest news and current events, while his mother, a feature writer and columnist for the Contra Costa Times, instilled in him a love for storytelling and the art of writing.
As a young man, Goldberg's passion for writing led him to pursue a degree in English at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). It was during his time at UCLA that he sold his first novel, ".357 Vigilante," written under the pseudonym "Ian Ludlow," and began his screenwriting career. In the mid-1980s, he was hired by New World Pictures to adapt the book for a feature film, although the project was ultimately never brought to fruition.
Despite this early setback, Goldberg persevered and continued to hone his craft. He went on to write and produce numerous television shows, including the popular series Diagnosis Murder (1993),SeaQuest 2032 (1993),and Monk (2002). In addition to his work in television, Goldberg has also co-created the Hallmark movie series Mystery 101 (2019) and has served as an international television consultant, advising networks and studios in Canada, France, Germany, Spain, China, Sweden, and the Netherlands on the creation, writing, and production of episodic television series.
As a #1 New York Times bestselling author, Goldberg has written and published over 40 novels, including "Lost Hills," "True Fiction," and 15 novels based on the "Monk" TV series. He has also co-authored five books with renowned author Janet Evanovich. Throughout his illustrious career, Goldberg has demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt to changing trends and technologies, while maintaining a commitment to his craft and a passion for storytelling.
