Kim Hyang-gi started her acting career as a child actress, making her debut in the animal film Hearty Paws in 2006, alongside Yoo Seung-ho.
Her breakthrough role came in 2013 with the television drama The Queen's Classroom, which earned her the Best Young Actress Award at the 2013 MBC Drama Awards.
In 2014, Kim starred in the film Thread of Lies, a adaptation of Lyeo-ryung Kim's novel, where she portrayed a victim of bullying and won the Best New Actress award at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
In 2015, Kim had a lead role in the Drama City television special Snowy Road, a two-part drama series about the "comfort women" in Korea under Japanese rule during World War II, which was later released as a film in theaters.
Kim's success continued in 2017 with her starring role in the web drama Sweet Revenge, which received positive reviews and gained over 11 million views online. She also starred in the fantasy blockbuster Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days, which was the second highest-grossing film in South Korea, and won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Blue Dragon Awards.
Kim reprised her role in the sequel of the film, Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days, in the same year.
In 2018, Kim starred in the drama film Young-ju, playing a lonely girl whose environment has forced her to grow up too fast. She also appeared in the two-episode romance drama Drunk in Good Taste.
In 2019, Kim starred alongside Jung Woo-sung in the drama film Innocent Witness, earning positive reviews for her portrayal of an autistic girl and being nominated for Best Actress in the 55th Baeksang Arts Award.
