Kim Farrant is a renowned director, widely recognized for her feature film "Strangerland", which boasts an impressive cast including Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes, and Hugo Weaving.
In addition to her work on "Strangerland", Kim has directed several other notable projects, including the action procedural "Rush" for Endemol/Ten, and the short films "Between Me" and "Bombshell". Her short films have garnered numerous accolades, including the 2010 Melbourne International Queer Film Festival Audience Award for Best Short Film, the 2010 Melbourne International Queer Film Festival Jury Prize for Best Australian Short Queer Film, and the 2009 OutLook Audience Award for Best LGBT Short Film at the Cork Film Festival.
Kim's television documentary series credits include "The Secret Side of Me" for SBS and "Insight - Out of the Saddle". Her documentary feature "Naked on the Inside" was a finalist at the Sydney Film Festival and received a nomination for the Film Critics Circle of Australia award for Best Documentary.
Kim's short films have been showcased at numerous prestigious film festivals around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival, the London Film Festival, the Cork Film Festival, the Bilboa Film Festival, the Film de Femmes festival, the NYU International Student Film Festival, the Destination Film Festival, the St. Kilda Film Festival, and both the Sydney and Melbourne Fringe Film Festivals. Her short film "Sammy Blue" was a finalist at the IF Awards in 2000 and took second place at the Festival Internazionale Cinema Della Donne in Turin, Italy.
Before transitioning to directing, Kim began her career as an actor, training at the American New Theatre in LA with acting coach Eric Morris and later studying The Journey at the Actors Centre in Sydney, Australia. She also trained with NYC acting coach Susan Batson. Kim then pursued screenwriting at the University of New South Wales, ultimately graduating with a Masters with Honours in Directing from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.
