Ken Knox's principal occupation was that of a disc jockey for a multitude of radio stations situated in Dallas, Texas, throughout the course of his professional career. Notably, his relatively short-lived foray into the film industry was a direct consequence of radio boss Gordon McLendon's innovative approach of incorporating on-staff talent into his cinematic endeavors. During this period, Knox served as a broadcaster on McLendon's KLIF-AM, which was the unequivocal top-ranked station in the region at the time, from 1957 to 1960. Subsequently, he went on to work for easy listening radio stations, including KTLC-FM (which would later be rebranded as KMEZ),also located in Dallas.
