Kelvin Redvers is a renowned and accomplished Aboriginal filmmaker and actor, having achieved numerous awards and recognition throughout his career. Born and raised in the small town of Hay River, Northwest Territories, Canada, Redvers began his journey in the film industry at the tender age of 15, when he founded Crosscurrent Productions, a video production company.
During his high school years, Redvers collaborated with his classmates to create short films, which would later go on to win national and international awards at film festivals worldwide. His 35-minute film, Sheep, made at the age of 16, earned the prestigious Golden Starfish Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival in New York.
Redvers furthered his education at Simon Fraser University, where he majored in Film Production and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. His academic achievements were marked by the Gordon Shrum Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon a student at SFU.
Upon graduating, Redvers joined the team of the acclaimed Indigenous current affairs show First Story as a producer and director. His first episode, Black Blood, won a Jack Webster Award and the RTNDA Trina McQueen Award for Best News Information Program in B.C. Throughout his three seasons at the show, Redvers accumulated five journalism awards, including a second Jack Webster Award.
Redvers made his debut at major film festivals with his narrative short film, The Dancing Cop, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and later at the Oldenburg International Film Festival.
In television, Redvers conceptualized the documentary series "High Arctic Haulers," which aired on CBC primetime television in September 2019. He also served as a Consulting Producer and Director on the show. Concurrently, he co-created the We Matter Campaign with his sister Tunchai, a national multi-media and social media campaign focused on supporting Indigenous youth with mental health issues. The campaign boasts tens of thousands of followers and millions of online views.
Redvers is currently working on completing his first feature film, while simultaneously developing several other projects.
