Julia Marchese is a multi-talented individual who has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry as an actress, director, writer, producer, and film programmer. Her journey began with a high school education at a performing arts institution, where she honed her skills in drama and film.
After completing her education, Julia went on to study drama and film in college, further developing her craft. Her passion for the arts led her to write, perform in, and direct several plays, showcasing her versatility as a performer and creative force.
Julia's filmography includes appearances in several independent and horror movies, including Full Moon's Delta Delta Die!, Deathcember, Golden Earrings, and Joe Dante's Burying the Ex.
Her 2014 documentary, Out of Print, marked a significant milestone in her career as it explored the importance of revival cinema and 35mm film to culture. The documentary won the Programmer's Award for best documentary at the Sidewalk Film Festival in 2014 and was screened on 35mm at film archives, art house cinemas, and universities around the world. The print is now preserved at The Academy Film Archives.
In addition to her work in film, Julia is also a co-host of two popular podcasts: Horror Movie Survival Guide, which focuses on horror movies, and JodoWOWsky, which explores the life and work of filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky.
In 2020, Julia acquired the rights to Stephen King's short story "I Know What You Need" through his Dollar Baby program. She wrote the screenplay, produced, and directed the adaptation, which is a personal favorite of hers. The film was shot on location at the University of Maine, where the story is set.
