Biography

Jorge Lanata, an Argentine journalist, embarked on his professional journey at the tender age of 14, crafting news spots for LRA1 Radio Nacional.

Twenty-six years later, in 1987, Lanata founded the renowned 'Página 12', which swiftly became one of Argentina's three most widely read newspapers. He also served as the Managing Editor-in-Chief until 1994.

During this period, Lanata penned several books, including 'La Guerra de las Piedras', a chronicle of the Arab-Israeli confrontation in the Gaza Strip; 'Polaroids', a collection of short stories; 'Historia de Teller', a novel; and 'Cortinas de Humo', an investigation into terrorist attacks on Jewish institutions in Buenos Aires.

Concurrently, he cultivated a successful radio career on stations such as 'Belgrano', 'Rock & Pop', and 'Del Plata'.

From 1996 to 2003, Lanata hosted 'Día D', the most widely viewed political program on national television in Argentina. He also hosted 'Detrás de las Noticias' from 2001 to 2002.

In 1997, one of his short stories published in 'Polaroids' was translated and included in 'Prospero's Mirror', an anthology of Latin American literature published in the US. The same year, he published a series of articles compiled in a book titled 'Vuelta de Página'.

Lanata founded the weekly magazine 'Veintitrés' in 1998 and the monthly magazine 'EGO' in 2001.

As a result of five years of investigation, Lanata published 'Argentinos I' in 2002 and 'Argentinos II' in 2003, which were distributed in Argentina and neighboring countries, with a special edition released in Spain in October 2003. 'Argentinos' has become an unexpected publishing phenomenon, selling over 340,000 copies and remaining on the best-sellers lists of local newspapers, the Associated Press, and EFE for more than 60 weeks.

Currently, Lanata is working on his first documentary, 'Deuda', which explores the connection between international credit organizations and hunger in developing countries. Produced by Patagonik Film Group, the film is scheduled for release in Argentine theaters on October 7, 2004.
