John Romeo, a seasoned stage actor, has spent an impressive 28 years as a member of the New York State Theatre Institute company. Born in Albany, NY, he has had the privilege of performing in various esteemed venues, including London's West End, Off-Broadway in New York City, and international tours across Italy, Moscow, Sweden, Jordan, and numerous locations throughout New York State.
John's educational background is equally impressive, with an undergraduate degree in Drama from St. Michael's College under the guidance of Joanne and Donald Rathgeb, the founders of the renowned St. Michael's Playhouse. Prior to embarking on his full-time acting career, John gained valuable experience in various occupations, including working as a funeral home assistant, drive-in movie concession worker, state-wide hot-line supervisor, paving crew member, and in multiple positions for New York State offices.
In a unique twist, John was even laid off from his three-year position at the Unemployment Insurance office, a distinction that has likely provided him with a unique perspective on the challenges of the entertainment industry. John's early career with the New York State Theatre Institute began as a theatre technician, followed by a stint as a props person, before transitioning into his role as a professional actor.
Throughout his illustrious career, John has received numerous accolades, including awards from the Albany Times Union ("Best OF...-Actor") and Metroland Magazine (three-time winner of "Best Local Actor"). He has had the privilege of playing a wide range of roles, from Willie Loman in "A Death of a Salesman" to Lenny in "Of Mice and Men", and even the Common Man in "A Man For All Seasons".
John has also had the opportunity to work with esteemed director and choreographer Pat Birch, with whom he has collaborated on nine productions, including the title role in "Fiorello", George Pullman in "American Enterprise", Moo in the West End production of "The Snow Queen", and many more. In addition to his extensive background in Shakespeare, John has performed with the Saratoga Shakespeare Company and has taken part in roles such as Friar Laurence in "Romeo & Juliet", Falstaff in "Henry IV, Pt. 1", Macduff, and The Porter in "Macbeth".
John has also had the privilege of studying text and movement at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, a testament to his dedication to his craft. His film work began with Paul Grey's Film Atelier in the late 1970s, and he has since appeared in numerous independent films, including "Fighting For Freedom" alongside Bruce Dern and Kristanna Loken.
