John is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University, where he earned a degree in Literature. During his time at LMU, he collaborated with Billy Samoa Saleebey on the project "Rolling" and appeared in numerous stage plays, including "The Kentucky Cycle" and "The Baltimore Waltz".
After graduating, John worked as an actor on various original programs, such as "Astonishing News" and "OZ", as well as numerous short films, pilots, and stage plays. In May 2004, he co-founded the production company Group in Progress with Robyn Reiter in New York.
The company's inaugural production was the off-Broadway winter staging of Michael Weller's 1972 anti-war play "Moonchildren", which featured Ben Morrison and Vincent Piazza. Weller himself praised the production, stating it was the best version he'd seen since the original Broadway production 32 years earlier.
In February 2005, John and Group in Progress produced "Rolling" with Saleebey's Believe Entertainment, starring Sanoe Lake and Erin Cummings, which won the 2009 PRISM Award. John has also adapted a novel about the Memphis garbage strike of 1968 and the assassination of MLK Jr., titled "Jericho Road", which he hopes to get funded someday.
Currently, John is working on a Jewish coming-of-age comedy set in NYC with Reiter, as well as a supernatural thriller with veteran writer Garry Rusoff. He recently completed the dramatic thriller "Deviant", which will film in 2014. In addition to his film work, John also works on numerous short films and music videos.
The mission of Group in Progress is to produce high-quality work for stage and screen that addresses societal issues.
