Biography

John Goldstone has been a stalwart figure in the English comedy film industry since the mid-1970s, with a long-standing professional relationship with the esteemed Monty Python troupe. This collaboration has resulted in the production of several iconic films, including MONTY PYTHON & THE HOLY GRAIL, LIFE OF BRIAN, THE MEANING OF LIFE, JABBERWOCKY, ERIK THE VIKING, and THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS.

Prior to his work with Monty Python, Goldstone's career in film production began in 1961 as a production assistant on the film AKIND OF LOVING, directed by John Schlesinger. He then spent seven years as a production assistant to producer Joseph Janni on a series of seminal British films, including BILLY LIAR, DARLING, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD, MODESTY BLAISE, and POOR COW.

Goldstone's first film as a producer was the 1970 film THREE SISTERS, directed by the renowned Laurence Olivier. He continued to work with the Monty Python team throughout the 1970s, producing MONTY PYTHON & THE HOLY GRAIL in 1974, followed by MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN and MONTY PYTHON'S MEANING OF LIFE.

In addition to his work with Monty Python, Goldstone has produced a diverse range of films, including THE FINAL PROGRAMME, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, and its sequel SHOCK TREATMENT. He has also worked with acclaimed directors such as Paul Morrissey, Ken Loach, and Henry Jaglom, producing films like THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, CARRY ON COLUMBUS, and DÉJÀ VU.

In the 1990s, Goldstone created THE COMEDY HOUSE, a production company dedicated to promoting British film comedy talent, with funding from Twentieth Century-Fox. He also produced the 30th Carry On film, CARRY ON COLUMBUS, directed by Gerald Thomas and featuring a talented ensemble cast.

In 1996, Goldstone produced the live-action version of THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS, written, directed by, and starring Terry Jones, with a cast that included Eric Idle, Steve Coogan, Nicol Williamson, Antony Sher, John Cleese, and Michael Palin. The film was released by Walt Disney and Columbia Pictures.

In the late 1990s, Goldstone continued to produce a range of films, including Henry Jaglom's DÉJÀ VU, starring Victoria Foyt, Stephen Dillane, and Vanessa Redgrave, and the BFI London IMAX Cinema Signature Film, written and directed by Terry Jones and starring John Cleese.

In 1999, Goldstone produced Henry Jaglom's new film, FESTIVAL, shot against the backdrop of the 1999 Cannes Film Festival, and starring an all-star cast that included Anouk Aimee, Greta Scacchi, Maximilian Schell, and Ron Silver. Throughout his illustrious career, John Goldstone has been a driving force in the English comedy film industry, leaving an indelible mark on the world of cinema.
