Johanna Matz, a talented actress born in Vienna in the year 1932, embarked on a journey in the world of dance by taking ballet training at the prestigious Vienna Academy. At the tender age of sixteen, she began to hone her stage skills under the guidance of renowned directors Helene Thimig and Alfred Neugebauer. With early success in cinema, Matz eventually returned to her true passion, the stage.
Throughout her illustrious career, she appeared in a variety of Austrian, German, and American films, although she considered herself primarily a theatre actress. Her remarkable talent did not go unnoticed, as Otto Preminger sought her out for a role in the Hollywood production of "The Girl on the Roof" (1953),the German version of "The Moon Is Blue" (1953). In 1954, Matz starred alongside the same cast in both the German and English language versions of "They Were So Young" (1954),with the American title being "They Were so Young".
