Joey Curtis, a multi-talented filmmaker, embarked on his creative journey at the tender age of 22, scripting, producing, editing, and directing his debut feature film, "Brother Tied." This cinematic masterpiece premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 1998, where it garnered widespread acclaim, with The Guardian's Jonathan Romney praising it as "one of the most striking American independent debuts in some time," and New York Newsday's John Anderson hailing it as a work of "visual genius." The film went on to travel to over 30 festivals, winning international awards at six.
Fast-forward to Joey's second feature, "Quattro Noza," which he wrote, directed, co-photographed, and edited. This visually stunning film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2003, won the Best Cinematography award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. "Quattro Noza" also received nominations for two Independent Spirit Awards in 2004, including Best First Feature and Best Cinematography, and premiered internationally at the Berlinale.
Joey's next project was the screenplay for "Blue Valentine," starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. This critically acclaimed film premiered at Sundance in 2010 to widespread acclaim, and went on to receive two Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor and Actress. Michelle Williams received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and the film was released by The Weinstein Company in December 2010 to rave reviews and a highly successful theatrical run.
In 2014, Joey was hired to write the feature-length screenplay for "Girl on the Edge," a dramatic story about a self-destructive teenage girl who is sent away to an alternative healing center in the wilderness. This film won 13 film festivals and was distributed by Showtime Networks.
Joey's next project was the post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi feature, "2307: Winter's Dream." Set 300 years in the future, after Earth is covered in a second Ice Age, the story follows a future soldier on a mission to hunt down the leader of the humanoid rebellion. This film won seven film festivals, received a theatrical release in AMC theaters across the US, international distribution in over 20 countries, and had a successful VOD run on DirecTV, Amazon, iTunes, YouTube Red, and is now trending on Netflix with a 3.5-star rating.
