Joe Murphy-Roe, a writer and director hailing from Yorkshire, was previously known as Joe Morris. His professional journey began with three commissions through the Lottery-funded Digital Shorts scheme, co-financed with Screen Yorkshire. As a result, his short films have gained international recognition, winning accolades at various national and international film festivals.
Joe's most recent short film, We Are Dancers, garnered significant attention and accolades. It was a finalist in the Iris Prize LGBT Festival's Best British Short award, receiving high commendation from the jury. Additionally, it was longlisted for the BIFA Best British Short Award, shortlisted for the British Short Film Award at the 2020 BAFTAs, and nominated for a Student Academy Award.
Notably, Joe was a BAFTA mentee under the guidance of Levan Akin and participated in Screen Yorkshire's Flex development program. Furthermore, he is a creative writing undergraduate at the University of Nottingham and a filmmaking postgraduate at the Northern Film School, showcasing his dedication to honing his craft in both writing and filmmaking.
