Joby grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was fascinated by Harry Houdini and began performing children's magic shows at the age of 12. His parents, who worked at WSM television and Opryland Theme park, supported his passion for magic and comedy. Joby's early performances were met with laughter, which encouraged him to pursue comedy as a career.
After high school, Joby became a bodybuilder, winning the Mr. Mid-Central USA Title at age 19. However, he eventually returned to the stage, where he was discovered by comedy writer Mike Price and Disney Star Jim Varney, who encouraged him to pursue stand-up comedy. Joby became a regular at Zanies Comedy Club, where he performed with top comedians like Tim Allen, Jeff Foxworthy, and Rob Schneider.
Joby's big break came when he was discovered by George Shapiro of Shapiro/West Management, who helped him land a starring role on an episode of the family-friendly TV series "Bananas Comedy" in 2005. He also appeared in the Warner Bros. DVD "Thou Shalt Laugh" in 2006, which became the highest-selling comedy DVD in its genre.
Joby has since launched his own TV series, "Vidiots," which features silent comedy and has been broadcast on cable and sold over 100,000 copies on DVD. He has also performed for troops in Honduras, children at St. Jude Hospital, and at the Lifest Christian music festival. Recently, he has appeared on several Moth shows in Santa Monica and launched storytalks.org with fellow comedian Alyse Kenny.
Joby has been a frequent guest on the syndicated "Daren Streblow comedy show" on I-heart Radio and has been featured on the TV series "Stand Up Neurotica." He is also involved as a judge and performer for the annual Clean Comedy Challenge, which promotes clean comedy for younger comedians and veterans.
