Montalvan has garnered a reputation among his fans as the "Salvador Dali of Horror", and his words are often quoted as saying that "A film without Blood, is like a marriage without Sex". This enigmatic statement reflects his passion for crafting films that are bold, daring, and unapologetic.
Following the completion of his cult, grindhouse film "Legend of the Hillbilly Butcher", Montalvan aimed to create a film that would amplify the aesthetic of his earlier work on a larger scale. He envisioned an apocalyptic landscape infused with Western elements, horror themes, and a group of five individuals roaming the desolate terrain, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
At a recent panel discussion at Son of Monsterpalooza, Montalvan was asked about the cinematic inspirations behind his film. He candidly replied, "It was a genre mash-up, really. Apocalyptic, Horror, Western – it's like combining the likes of 'Apocalypse Now', 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly', and 'Dawn of the Dead'."
Born in Alhambra, California, and raised in Pasadena, California, Montalvan's journey as a creative began at the tender age of 15 when he traveled to India. It was during this trip that his father handed him a camera, instructing him to take photographs. This serendipitous encounter marked the genesis of Montalvan's lifelong fascination with photography.
Currently, Montalvan is working on a biker film and a documentary about an idiosyncratic and controversial artist, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile and innovative filmmaker.
