Biography

Joachim Löw attended school until secondary school level and then pursued training as a wholesale merchant. As a child, he played football for his hometown club "TuS Schönau 1896" and later for "FC Schönau", where his talent was recognized and nurtured.

He entered the Bundesliga as a professional player in the 1980/1981 season, playing as a midfielder for "VfB Stuttgart". The following season, he moved to "Eintracht Frankfurt", also playing as a midfielder.

In the 1982/83 and 1983/84 seasons, Löw played in the 2nd Bundesliga for "SC Freiburg". He then moved to "Karlsruher SC" in 1984/85, and remained with "SC Freiburg" until the end of his career.

His last Bundesliga game was in 1989, during which he played a total of 233 games and scored 70 goals.

Löw's coaching career began in 1992 with the A-youth team of "FC Winterthur". He then became assistant coach of "VfB Stuttgart" from 1995 to 1996, and was briefly promoted to interim coach before becoming head coach from September 1996.

As head coach of "VfB Stuttgart", Löw won the DFB Cup in 1997 and reached the final round of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1998.

He then coached "Fenerbahce Istanbul" in Turkey for a year, and achieved another triumph with "FC Tirol Innsbruck", winning the Austrian championship in 2002.

From August 2004, Löw served as assistant coach of the German national team, preparing the team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. After the German national team won the World Cup on June 30, 2006, Löw was given responsibility as DFB national coach.

In the semi-final game of the 2008 European Championship against Turkey, the national team scored 3-2 to advance to the final against Spain. In the 2010 World Cup, the team lost 1-0 to Spain in the semi-finals, but won the game for third place against Uruguay.

In 2014, Löw led the team to win the FIFA World Cup and received the FIFA Coach of the Year award.

Joachim Löw is married to his wife Daniela.
