Biography

Jim, the youngest of four siblings, grew up on a farm near Loch Lomond in Scotland, surrounded by his parents and three sisters. His early exposure to acting came when he joined his local young farmers club and participated in their annual variety concerts.

After leaving school at the age of 16, Jim worked on the family dairy/livestock farm, but he eventually realized that it wasn't the right path for him. It wasn't until he was 28 years old that he decided to audition for a place in The Royal Scottish Academy Of Music And Drama, where he successfully secured a spot on the acting course.

Tragedy struck when Jim's father, William, lost his battle with cancer in 2002. This devastating event caused Jim to take a step back from his acting career, and he returned to the family farm to help with the day-to-day operations.

Jim graduated from The Royal Scottish Academy Of Music And Drama in 2003 and made the move to London to pursue his acting career. In addition to his work in film and television, Jim has also had a successful stage career, performing in numerous productions throughout Scotland and London.

Recently, Jim shared the West End stage with Kenneth Cranham and Claire Skinner in the critically acclaimed and award-winning play "The Father," written by French playwright Florian Zeller. The play tells the story of an aging man's struggle with Alzheimer's disease. In 2018, Jim returned to London's West End, taking on the lead role of Dr. Alec Harvey in Kneehigh Theatre's multi-award-winning production of "Brief Encounter," directed by Emma Rice.
