Jeff Burr, a multifaceted creative force, was born in 1961 in Aurora, Ohio. He spent his formative years in Dalton, Georgia, where his fascination with low-budget independent films was nurtured. As a child, Burr was an avid fan of Super-8 movies, which sparked his imagination and passion for filmmaking. His academic pursuits took him to the University of Southern California, where he met fellow aspiring filmmaker Kevin Meyer. The two friends dropped out of USC to co-create the acclaimed Civil War drama "Divided We Fall" (1982),which garnered numerous awards at international film festivals.
Burr's directorial debut in the horror genre came in 1987 with the chilling anthology film "From a Whisper to a Scream". He subsequently directed a string of horror sequels, including "Stepfather II: Make Room for Daddy" (1989),"Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III" (1990),"Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings" (1993),and the fourth and fifth installments of the "Puppetmaster" franchise.
Burr's more recent body of work has been a diverse mix of films, ranging from the mediocre "Phantom Town" (1999) to the poorly received "The Devil's Den" (2006). However, his World War II action drama "Straight Into Darkness" (2004) stands out as a notable highlight, showcasing his ability to craft a gripping and intense cinematic experience.
In addition to his directorial credits, Burr has also made appearances in various films, including "The Mangler Reborn" (2005),"Dark Asylum" (2001),"High Tomb" (1995),and "Fear of a Black Hat" (1993).
