Jean's transition from musician to actor began after his honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, where he had served a tour of duty in Vietnam, and his subsequent return to civilian life in the Bay Area of Northern California.
Jean made his acting debut in the stage play Wait Until Dark with Actors Repertory Theater in San Jose, California, in 1974. He also filmed his first television commercial that same year.
Throughout his 40-plus years as an actor, Jean has appeared in over 50 film, television, industrial, commercial, music video, and theatre productions, collaborating with notable figures such as Clint Eastwood, Cameron Mitchell, and Russell Johnson.
Jean has studied with renowned acting teachers and coaches, including Estelle Harman, Cliff Osmond, Virginia Capers, Steve Eastin, Tom Irwin, Mark Teschner, Joseph Pearlman, and Rob Brownstein, among others.
In 1981, Jean starred in the cult classic film Kill Squad, which was re-released on Blu-ray in 2019 to the delight of international fans. He also made a network television appearance on the CBS series Seal Team in 2019, starring alongside David Boreanaz and Max Theriot.
In 2021, Jean acted alongside Paul Rudd and Lisa Rinna in two episodes of the Apple+ series The Shrink Next Door. The following year, he appeared in an episode of the Hulu series How I Met Your Father.
Jean's theatre credits are impressive, featuring significant roles in a variety of plays, including Ceremonies In Dark Old Men, When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder?, To Find A Man, Scotch and Milk, and Othello. His most recent stage appearance was on July 31, 2023, at the Geffen Playhouse, where he performed his original monologue, Blame It On Elvis, in the production Beyond The Barracks.
