Jean-François Rivard is a multi-talented director and screenwriter who has been active in the industry since 1997. He began his career by creating short films, including Kopps, which won the audience award and the jury prize at the Vidéaste Recherché competition. He went on to create six more short films, including Soowitch, Kuproquo, and Noël Blank, which was presented on Radio-Canada Television and won the 2004 Genie Award for Best Dramatic Short.
Rivard's work in television is equally impressive. He is the co-writer and director of two popular TV series, Les Invincibles and Série Noire, both of which aired on Radio-Canada. Les Invincibles, which consisted of three seasons, received a total of 24 nominations at the Prix Gémeaux and won seven awards, including "Best Series," "Best Writing," and "Best Direction." The series also received the Academy's special award for creation and innovation and two Olivier awards.
Série Noire, which consisted of two seasons, received 15 awards out of 29 nominations at the Prix Gémeaux, including "Best Writing" and "Best Direction." Rivard's work on the series has been widely praised, and he has won numerous awards for his direction and writing.
In addition to his work on TV series, Rivard has also directed several English-language TV movies, including The Sisterhood, Mad Mom, Queen of Sin, Separated at Birth, and Fanatic. These films have been well-received and have received numerous nominations and awards.
Rivard has also worked on several other projects, including advertising messages, music videos, and video game captures. He is known for his ability to create engaging and entertaining content that appeals to a wide range of audiences.
In 2021, Rivard filmed the second season of the series C'est comme ça que je t'aime, which was selected at the Berlinale Series of the 70th Berlinale and received 15 nominations at the Prix Gémeaux. He won the Gémeaux for Best Direction, and the series won a Rockie Award at the Banff Media Festival for Excellence in Canadian Content.
Rivard's most recent project is the series Bon matin Chuck, which he co-directed and wrote. The series was selected for the 2023 edition of Cannes Séries and the 2024 edition of the Banff World Media Festival.
