Born in North Wales in 1978, JD's early life was shaped by his parents' diverse professions - his father was a builder, while his mother was an artist. His grandfather, Felix Roth, was a multifaceted individual who served as a member of the Magic Circle, an officer in the British army, and a dentist. This eclectic mix of influences had a profound impact on JD, as did his great aunt, Dorothy Round Little, a renowned tennis ace who won the Wimbledon Championship in the 1930s.
As he grew older, JD's interest in the performing arts began to take shape. He spent over a decade working as a builder and stage hand in theatres in Manchester and London, which allowed him to develop a deep appreciation for the craft of acting. This passion eventually led him to pursue an acting career, with private tuition in Manchester in 2006 and again in 2010 when he relocated to London.
JD's early foray into acting involved working as a sword fighter on films such as 'Snow White and The Huntsman' and 'Maleficent', where he performed basic stunts. He gradually began to land small walk-on roles in TV and film, and eventually secured the lead role in the TV pilot '2024'.
In addition to his acting endeavors, JD is also a skilled screenwriter and novelist. He has received training in the Ivana Chubbuck masterclass, a controversial and intensive acting program, as well as the Identity Acting School in London, where prominent actors such as John Boyega and Letitia Wright have previously studied.
