Jay Stern is a multifaceted creative force based in New York City, having made a significant impact in the film industry as a writer, director, and producer. His impressive body of work includes directing four feature films, with his most recent endeavor being "Say My Name", which was shot in Wales in 2017 and subsequently released in the United States during the summer of 2019.
In addition to his feature film work, Jay has also produced and directed numerous short films and music videos, further showcasing his versatility as a creative professional. Notably, he was also involved in the production of Victor Varnado's feature documentary "The Awkward Comedy Show", which premiered on Comedy Central.
Jay's extensive experience in the film industry is complemented by his work as a founder, producer, and co-host of the Iron Mule Short Comedy Screening Series, which has been a staple of the New York City comedy scene since its inception in April 2002.
As a theater director, Jay has had the opportunity to work on a range of productions, including "Butterflies", "Beulah Land", "The Worth of Women", and "The Bardy Bunch: the War of the Families Partridge and Brady".
Jay's academic background is equally impressive, having studied filmmaking at the Vancouver Film School and screenwriting at Columbia University, where he had the privilege of studying under the tutelage of renowned writer and director Terry Southern. He went on to earn his PhD in Media Philosophy from the European Graduate School, where he had the opportunity to study under the guidance of esteemed filmmakers and intellectuals such as Peter Greenaway, Claude Lanzmann, Volker Schlöndorff, John Waters, Jacques Derrida, and Agnès Varda.
