Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, a native son of the Aloha State, Mr. Lau is a proud product of Punahou School and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),where he honed his skills and knowledge in the financial industry with stints at Dean Witter Reynolds and Bank of Hawaii.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Lau has demonstrated his commitment to giving back to his community by serving on the board of directors of several esteemed organizations, including Hawaii Angels, an angel investment group, Hawaii Venture Capital Association (HVCA),American Heart Association, Hawaii Theater for Youth, and the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF). Additionally, he is a valued member of the advisory board for the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Hawaii and a respected member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and Gold House.
In 2004, Mr. Lau founded TalkStory Productions, a film production company based in Hawaii, with the goal of producing high-quality film projects that showcase the beauty and talent of the islands. Since its inception, the company has produced a diverse range of television and theatrical projects, earning a reputation as one of the fastest-growing production companies in Hawaii.
Mr. Lau's dedication to his craft has earned him numerous accolades and opportunities. He was a finalist in the prestigious Sundance Institute's Creative Producing Lab & Fellowship, a participant in the Hawaii International Film Festival's Creative Lab Writers Accelerator, and completed the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab - Masters Session, Sundance's Master Lab in Directing, and the UCLA's TFT Professional Program in Directing.
His scripts have also received recognition, reaching the finals of the Shore Scripts Feature Film Contest and the ScreenCraft Pilot Launch TV Script Contest. Hawaii Business Magazine has recognized Mr. Lau as one of twenty individuals to watch for the next twenty years, a testament to his talent, vision, and commitment to his craft.
